Following the recent publication of a National Audit Office report, that care acquired infection costs the NHS £1 billion per year.

The aim of this course is to raise awareness around the issues of infection control and provide effective guidelines and measures which can me implemented to avoid infection that should be followed by anyone providing care at home or a care centre.

 bythe end of the session delegates will be able to:

• identify some common infectious diseases
• list the roots of transmition of common infectious diseases
• state universal precautions to be used when working with a service user with an infection
• discuss and demonstrate good practice with regards to personal hygiene, waste disposal, dealing with body fluids etc.
• state the benefits of inoculation against infectious diseases.
