To provide those in managerial and supervisory positions with appropriate knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health developed its Advanced Health & Safety Certificate course. Successful completion of the course will also provide candidates with a qualification that meets the subject knowledge criteria for tutors seeking approval to run the CIEH Foundation Certificate in Health & Safety in the Workplace course.

Rigorous enforcement of health and safety legislation is important but it is not, in itself, sufficient to prevent work related accidents, injuries and illnesses. Improvements in the standards in health and safety practices in the workplace can be achieved through education and training at all levels with everybody being aware of their responsibilities under health and safety legislation.

Employers have a responsibility to provide safe and healthy workplace conditions as well as safe systems and methods for workplace activities. An essential element of any safe system is the knowledge and attitude of employees, and this demands proper training in health and safety, as well as specific training for individual tasks.

This 5 day course concludes with 2 work based assignments and a 3 hour examination, successful candidates are awarded the CIEH Advanced Certificate in Health & Safety.
