Course Description:

You will start off by having and induction, where your assesor will explain the proccess of the NVQ and the things that you will have to do to complete your portfolio. A portfolio is a file that you will be adding evidence of your competence to while you are going through this qualification. Rather than demonstrate your competence at the end of the course this qualification is about things that you DO! some examples of what would be going in your portfolio to demonstrate your competence are:

• A unit may ask you to demonstrate your knowledge in Identyfying and Evaluating Risk and you may want to submit a risk assessment that you carried out recently. This would be assessed by your tutor/assessor and agreed that you were at a level of competence that was satisfactory for level 4.
• Another unit may ask you to demonstrate your understanding of communication and management of health and safety. You may have decided to present your assessor with evidence of something that you have identified from the previous risk assessment, like fire safety hazards and then notified all of those concerned with a memo or training course.

The SMARTER you are with an NVQ in health and safety, the easier it will be to pass and your assessor will be with you from start to finish to ensure that you get through the qualification as easily as possible. On completion of the NVQ4 in Occupational Health and Safety you will be eligable for membership of Institute of Environmental Health IOSH

You will find that memership of IOSH is absolutely a must when you are a safety adviser/manager and not only that but it will also provide you will invaluable information, like legislation changes and insurance deals.
