Food Hygiene legislation update
Food hygiene changes in effect
The food sector is struggling to meet new European food hygiene
legislation, which was implemented on January 1st 2006. Changes have
been made so that it is much clearer what is expected of food
businesses and producers to make sure their food is safe.
Among the new requirements is the writing of a hazard analysis. Food
businesses need to put down on paper what food hazards exist in their
business and what action they are taking to ensure their methods of
production and services are safe.
Other key changes in the legislation deal with issues such as the trace
ability of food, product recall of unsafe food, microbiological
criteria of foodstuffs and the level of training staff will require.
Recent reports have suggested that there are still a large proportion
of smaller businesses who have not made any changes and potentially
facing prosecution. Beyond Learning have been offering level 3
certificate in implementing Food Safety Management procedures since the
1/1/06 and take up on the course has been fantastic. If you are
